The Tolson Center for Community Excellence blossomed from the Booker T. Washington Center which was fun by Herbert and Ruth Tolson from 1929 to 1950 and is named to honor the service and dedication of the couple to the area.
The new ground-up structure is a one-story steel framed building which doubles the square footage of the original center. Features of the new center include multiple gymnasiums, art studios, dance rooms, and community rooms where inclusive learning and cultural exchange can take place. JQOL served as the structural engineer of record for the community center.
